The request by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for live television coverage of the court’s proceedings was denied by the five-member panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) led by Justice Haruna Tsammani.
In a majority decision, the court found that the application lacked merit and added that there is currently no law in the nation that permits the broadcasting of judicial sessions.

The main judge, Justice Tsammani, asserted that just because the court must sit in public doesn’t mean it has to do so in a stadium or a shopping center.

A fair hearing for all parties and the interests of the petitioners in connection to the concerns highlighted in their petition could not, according to Justice Tsammani, be advanced by broadcasting the proceedings.

According to him, allowing the plea made by Atiku and the PDP might make the court’s important work seem petty.
