Babatunji Wusu –
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has fined the Nigerian federal government N100 million for infringing upon former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele’s right to personal liberty.
Judge Olukayode Adeniyi made the cost award on Monday in his decision regarding Emefiele’s fundamental right enforcement suit, which challenged his wrongful arrest by federal government agencies (DSS and EFCC).
Additionally, without a court order, Justice Adeniyi prevented the federal government from detaining Emefiele again.
The court ruled that it was time to stop making unauthorized arrests prior to conducting investigations.
Details to follow.
