In a decisive move to address recent violence in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced the formation of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry. This commission will investigate the arson, killings, and destruction of property at various Local Government Council headquarters.

The violent incidents occurred on Monday, just a day after the swearing-in of new council chairpersons following Saturday’s elections. Reports indicate that unidentified hoodlums attacked LGA secretariats, causing significant damage and chaos.

Key Details of the Commission

The establishment of this commission was communicated in a statement by Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government. The commission is authorized under Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

The members will be sworn in today, October 8, 2024, at 4 p.m. in the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt. They are expected to be seated by 3:30 p.m.
