Babatunji Wusu –

In the recent governorship election in Kogi State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has voiced its concerns over the late arrival of officials and election materials, attributing it to the actions of unidentified individuals.

During an interview with the media, Haliru Sule, the state INEC Voter Education and Publicity Officer, highlighted the commission’s adequate preparations for this special governorship election, yet acknowledged the occurrence of occasional obstacles.

According to Sule, these obstacles appear to be deliberate acts of sabotage by unknown perpetrators. The unforeseen shortage of vehicles for the transportation of INEC’s ad hoc staff and materials to the designated polling units was especially unexpected.

Nevertheless, INEC made significant efforts to overcome these challenges, ensuring a smooth and peaceful conduct of the election. Sule expressed confidence that the overall outcome of the exercise would be viewed as free, fair, credible, and successful.

Furthermore, INEC extends its gratitude to the security operatives for their remarkable efforts in providing adequate security coverage for both personnel and voters, contributing to a peaceful and prosperous election.
