Babatunji Wusu –

On Wednesday, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, announced the dismissal of Ohieku Salami, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. The decision, outlined in a statement by Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, cited Salami’s actions as “unbecoming of his office” and violations of established procedures.

The dismissal stems from Salami’s unprofessional conduct, which included suspending the university’s Vice-Chancellor without following the prescribed legal procedures. Additionally, his “abusive and threatening behavior” towards ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary, contributed to the decision.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that such actions undermined the integrity of the university and disrupted its governance. He further underscored the importance of professionalism and adherence to due process, which are crucial for maintaining stability in educational institutions.

In light of this, the Minister has called for the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council to restore proper governance at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, ensuring that the university operates in line with legal principles, accountability, and due process.
