The decision of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to support the incumbent, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, for reelection may have ultimately resolved the contest for Speaker of the 10th Assembly Session of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
THE PREMIER NEWS has learned that on Saturday, June 3, 2023, the highest decision-making body in Lagos gathered to stop the crisis before it started, and it was resolved for stability that Obasa should remain in office.
At the meeting, it was also decided that Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, who had been chosen to represent the Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber, should be replaced as the Deputy Speaker of the House by Obasa’s main rival, Hon. Mustain Abiodun Tobun, who represents Epe State Constituency I.
Exclusive information obtained by Thegazellenews.com indicates that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu handed the GAC members the authority to convene, confer, and make a decision about the ongoing Speakership crisis in the state House of Assembly.
“Many considerations were taken into consideration by the GAC members when they convened on Saturday, with a focus on the stability of the House, the concept of checks and balances, and the zoning issue.
“It was decided that the evolution of power in the state has naturally settled the zoning balance: Governor from Lagos Central, Deputy from Lagos East, and Speaker from Lagos West,” according to sources at the meeting.
The members were given the authority to select the other Principal Officers, and it was also decided that Honorable Tobun should serve as the new Deputy Speaker of the House.
