Babatunji Wusu –
Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was ousted due to alleged serious wrongdoing.
Oludaisi Elemide was chosen as the new speaker by the assembly, which unanimously dismissed the previous one.
Eighteen of the thirty-six members of the State Assembly voted in favor of Oluomo’s impeachment during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Oluomo was impeached, according to the Nation, on grounds of embezzlement, arrogance, and other offenses.
Remember that in 2022, Oluomo was taken into custody by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and subsequently freed on administrative bond?
Oluomo was taken into custody at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos following his refusal to comply with requests for information on purported financial offenses.
The Speaker was freed with the requirement that he bring the accountant and assembly clerk back to the EFCC headquarters.
