Babatunji Wusu –
Some political goons who are thought to be from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power in Kogi State, attacked Ibrahim Jibrin, the director general of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council, at his home.
During the Anyigba attack, four additional people as well as a policeman were killed by the thugs.
The policeman’s corpse, identified as Atabor, and the other victims, who were security personnel who were presumably on duty, were also taken away by the thugs who broke into the residence at around six in the morning on Tuesday, according to SaharaReporters.
In a statement issued by the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) spokesman, Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the thugs were described as a “rogue force” that Governor Yahaya Bello allegedly organized in advance of the state’s governorship election on Saturday.
Adejoh-Audu stated, “This morning, an armored personnel carrier (APC) attacked the home of Sheik Ibrahim Jibrin, the director-general of the SDP Campaign Council for Kogi State, in Anyigba, killing a serving police officer. The APC was assembled by Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bethrand Unuoha, on behalf of the governor.
Officer Atabor, a police guard, was assassinated this morning at around six in the morning by the rogues’ force, which consisted of thugs commanded by Friday Makama, who was formally declared sought by a Federal High Court, one Supol Ojo of the Lokoja Mopol office, and naval mercenaries led by N.U. Akalezi of the Nigerian naval.
“The rogue force, which allegedly included DSS agents and was led by Mr. Tosin Ajayi, the Deputy Director General of the Service, who is in Lokoja and is serving in a less official capacity as director, attacked for more than an hour, shooting multiple people, but officer Atabor was immediately declared dead.
“In order to enter the property, the APC knocked down the gate of Sheikh’s County residence. Once inside, the renegade force opened fire, killing Atabor while the other guards fled for safety.
“They removed the body of Officer Atabor and roughly six other individuals, four of whom were presumably officers on duty.”
It is also thought that Comrade I D Ijele, our campaign’s head of new media, may have also been kidnapped. While the attack was underway this morning, he was last heard from around 6:00 a.m.
As of the time this statement was written, the renegade force and the Armoured Personalities Carrier (APC) were still skulking around Anyigba.
“The police in Kogi are carrying out Bello’s desperate attempts to subdue the people’s will, just as they did during the 2019 Governorship Elections when they obtained a helicopter to shoot at voters. The attack, which used a renegade group of mercenaries and criminals from the Navy, was planned to start a few days prior to the elections.
According to what we know, till election day, Bethrand Unuoha and a few other compromised security chiefs in Kogi will continue their sporadic attacks against our campaign’s leaders and supporters, especially in Kogi East.
“This is to carry out Bello’s scheme to discourage voters from casting ballots in Kogi East, which he perceived to be an SDP stronghold. In order to allow for a free and fair election in Kogi State, the Muri/Sam Campaign Council is once again pleading with Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to remove this commissioner, who is keen to implement Bello’s desperate and violent designs.
