Babatunji Wusu –
After a protracted fight with leukemia, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has been declared dead.
In an interview with SaharaReporters on Wednesday, a family source revealed that Governor Akeredolu, who was 67 years old, passed away in Lagos.
It was discovered that since they were unable to send Akeredolu overseas, State House physicians cared for him till his passing.
The source said: “Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos.
“They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.”
Remember that the ill governor declined to come to Akure, the capital of Ondo State, to resume his duties when he returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical break in Germany?
Instead, Akeredolu remained in Oyo State’s capital, Ibadan, and attempted to run his state from there. This infuriated the public and prompted calls for his resignation due to his inability to continue serving as governor.
Governor Akeredolu recently took another leave of absence in November, as instructed by President Bola Tinubu to transfer authority to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Aiyedatiwa has been standing in as the acting Governor and peace has since returned to the South Weet state following President Tinubu’s intervention in the political impasse.
