In the waning moments of stoppage time, Brentford’s substitute Vitaly Janelt headed in the equalizer to secure a point for his team in a 1-1 Premier League tie with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
With the draw, Brentford’s Premier League unbeaten streak now stands at 11 games. With 35 points, Brentford is still in eighth place, while Palace is in 12th place with 26 points.
Following a promising beginning with some solid early chances, the match devolved into a cat-and-mouse game with neither team managing to generate many quality chances to score goals.
As Ivan Toney went down in the box while turning to look for a penalty in the 49th minute, Palace defender Joachim Andersen reacted angrily, reading him the riot act as the referee turned away his appeals for a penalty kick.
In the 69th minute, Eberechi Eze came off the bench for Palace and almost immediately made an impact. He rose unnoticed to head in a Michael Olise cross from close range, and Brentford offered little evidence that they would be able to recover.
They managed to pull it off despite appearing lifeless in attack in the sixth minute of stoppage time when substitute Janelt headed in a cross from Bryan Mbueno to excite the home crowd.
