Marcus Tavernier’s goal in the second half lifted Bournemouth out of the Premier League’s relegation zone as they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 on Saturday.

With their first victory since the World Cup break, the south-coast club moved up from 19th to 17th with 21 points after 23 games, one point above the relegation zone. Wolves remain in position 15 out of 23.

At Molineux, the home team made many early excursions towards Bournemouth’s penalty area and got off to a great start, but they were unable to capitalize on their momentum in the first half.

Despite their best attempts, Neto easily stopped Pablo Sarabia and Adama Traore from scoring despite their continual threat down the right.

The second half was started aggressively by Gary O’Neil’s guests, and they were rewarded with a goal in the 50th minute when Dominic Solanke crossed for Tavernier to bundle in with his thigh.

Ruben Neves’ long-range shot in stoppage time pricked Neto’s palm for Wolves as they desperately sought an equalizer, but Bournemouth held firm to record their first away clean sheet of the year.
