On Thursday at Sokoto, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, asked the Sultan of Sokoto for his blessing in order to win the election on February 25.
As he said, Tinubu and his running companion, Kashim Shettima, will “build on the triumphs” of his administration. Buhari was urging the electorate to give them the power to succeed him.
Buhari addressed Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III in his palace, “My wish is for your support and blessings; we want to win,” according to a statement released late Thursday by the president’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
President Buhari and Tinubu to Sultan: We Want to Win These Elections is the title of the statement.
Buhari, who was at the palace to formally present Tinubu to the monarch, claimed that their 20-year friendship gave him the confidence to support the APC candidate.
He asserts that Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, a former federal capital area that is now a commercial metropolis, continues to be the Nigerian people’s favorite aspect of him.
“He described the characteristics of the candidates, such as their shared conviction and dedication to the progress and unification of every region of the nation.
He claimed to have known Asiwaju for more than 20 years and had no hesitation about endorsing him as the APC candidate.
The statement read, “The President said Tinubu’s greatest strength was in his effective governance of Lagos, the country’s former capital, a business hub and home to diverse people from all over Nigeria for two terms; his commitment to democracy; and, most importantly, his role at the center as a Senator.
As a result, Buhari asked Nigerians to elect Tinubu as his successor because the APC candidate, who is backed by Kashim Shettima as his running mate, will build on his administration’s accomplishments.
The previous speaker, Tinubu, said: “I’ve come to be introduced to you as a candidate. Muhammadu Buhari, President and Commander-in-Chief, is present in person to carry out that task. I intend to prevail in the election. Is there any chance you’ll turn down the President’s request?
The king responded by saying that as the apolitical father of all and keeper of culture, he would continue to accept anyone who sought the throne’s favor, assuring Buhari that many people had come before him for the same reason and that many more would still do so.
“We’ll keep saying prayers for our country. We won’t stop pleading for calm and free elections in our fatherland and we can’t stop praying, the Sultan declared.
As he worked to secure free and fair elections, he gave the President reassurance that the Caliphate was behind him.
The Sultan further pointed out that the President’s promise to be there when the political parties sign the next peace accord showed his regime’s willingness to leave the country with a trustworthy election system.
The delegation traveled to the Giginya Memorial Stadium in Sokoto for the campaign rally after the meeting in the palace.
In that location, Buhari urged supporters to work to ensure the party’s victory in the next state and local elections.
He stated that Tinubu and his running companion, Kashim Shettima, would offer solutions to Nigeria’s problems because they have experience in politics as two-term governors of their respective states.
The previous governor Aliyu Wamakko, the speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the president of the senate, Ahmed Lawan, were all in attendance at the event.
