Draped in solemnity, the airstrip ceremony witnessed the presence of members of the Federal Executive Council, top military commanders, and other national dignitaries. They gathered to pay their final respects as the late statesman’s body was gently transferred into a waiting ambulance under tight security.
The convoy has since departed for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where preparations are in full swing for his interment later today in line with Islamic traditions.
The former Nigerian leader, who once served as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and returned to power as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, died at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
