Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, has questioned Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, on his ability to withstand the temptations of office and maintain his moral character.
When the LP candidate and his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, paid him a visit at his palace in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, the renowned monarch posed this question.
Obi’s fame precedes him, according to Oba Ewuare II.
He questioned the presidential hopeful about reports that he had actually turned down a plot of property that had been offered to him after he had served as the governor of Anambra State.
The monarch remarked that there were many temptations in the position of president and questioned Obi’s ability to withstand them and maintain his integrity.
He continued by saying that Obi’s fame has given rise to several debates, with many individuals claiming that it was only due to social media.
The Oba of Benin claimed that his research demonstrated how popular Obi was outside of social media.
The respected king believed that because he was the father of everyone, the Benin monarchy had remained politically neutral since the beginning of time.
The Oba of Benin declared that the only thing important for the throne was that the ideal candidate emerge, one who would have the interests of Nigerians at heart.
Obi replied to the king’s inquiries by saying that he had given back the land that had been given to him.
Concerning his ability to withstand the temptations of government, Obi assured that he and his running companion would make sure to not only withstand temptations but also battle corruption to a standstill.
