Babatunji Wusu –
The invitation from Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, regarding the N438 million contract scam has been verified by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
In a letter to Tunji-Ojo, the CBB requested that he come before the Bureau on Tuesday, which is today, at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.
On behalf of the Chairman of the Bureau, Murtala Aliyu, the letter was signed by Gwimi S.P., the Director of Investigation and Monitoring.
The CCB’s spokesperson, Veronica Kato, verified in a statement on Monday that the Bureau has started looking into Tunji-Ojo’s alleged violation of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
“It can be recalled that the minister has been in the news recently for an alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, particularly, a conflict of interest in the execution of a contract awarded to a company belonging to the Minister by the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs”, she said.
The minister co-founded New Planet Projects, a business that reportedly profited from an N438 million contract awarded by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The revenue was received by the corporation as payment for “consultancy fees” from the humanitarian ministry, which has been involved in multiple scandals, according to a leaked document.
The interior minister, however, has subsequently denied any misconduct and stated that he stopped serving as a director of the business in 2019.
