The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has extended its condolences to the Nigerian government and people in the wake of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing at a hospital in London on Sunday.
In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) account, the Embassy expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Buhari as a dedicated leader and a sincere friend of China.
“We mourn a resolute leader whose unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development has left a lasting legacy,” the message read. “His significant role in enhancing China-Nigeria relations will remain a cherished part of our shared history. Our thoughts are with his family and the Nigerian people.”
Buhari, a retired major general and former military head of state (1983–1985), was widely regarded as a symbol of national unity, integrity, and patriotism. Throughout his two-term civilian presidency, he was noted for his anti-corruption efforts and for strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships, particularly with China.
