According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his administration is aiming to introduce a policy that would give universities complete autonomy.

Over the weekend, during the 48th convocation of the University of Benin, President Tinubu made this statement in Benin, represented by Engineer Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

He expressed his conviction that greater autonomy for universities will improve the standard of higher education.

“University autonomy gives each specific institution complete control over performance accountability. This is the appropriate move in the right direction, according to the government,” he stated.

The president declared his dedication to realigning higher education and the education sector for superior service provision.

“Our administration has the potential to improve the perception of higher education and elevate educational institutions so they can effectively compete with global counterparts,” the speaker declared.

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, promised that automatic job opportunities in the state’s civil and public service will be extended to the institution’s top graduates who were born in Edo.

Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Tor Tiv V, the chancellor of the institution, enumerated corruption, inadequate academic personnel, limited research possibilities, inadequate money, and inadequate infrastructure as issues facing the institution.
