Anambra State High Court in Awka has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim.
The order followed an ex-parte motion filed by the Archbishop’s counsel, Mr. B.E. Nwofor (SAN), seeking to shield his client from any action by the anti-graft agency pending further proceedings.
Justice F.I. Aniukwu, who presided over the matter, granted the interim injunction after reviewing the application under the Fundamental Human Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules and Section 46(1) of the 1999 Constitution.
The judge ruled that the order would remain valid until all parties exchange processes in relation to Motion on Notice No: A/1307M/2025 and the case is heard or fixed for hearing. Unless renewed, the injunction will expire 21 days from September 9, 2025.
