Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 general elections, Dumebi Kachikwu, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognizing former Senate President David Mark as the party’s National Chairman.

Kachikwu, speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Thursday, accused INEC of acting irresponsibly by endorsing Mark despite pending court cases over the ADC’s leadership.

“What we saw from the INEC chairman was another irresponsible act from the outgoing chairman of INEC,” Kachikwu said. “When cases are in court, you respect the judicial process and avoid actions that could influence the outcome.”

He revealed that the courts are scheduled to hear the leadership tussle involving Mark and other party members next month, insisting that Nigerians will soon witness the judicial rulings on the matter.

Kachikwu further argued that Nigeria’s democracy is in jeopardy because of recycled politicians who, according to him, have consistently failed to provide effective leadership. He warned that allowing such figures to return to power would only deepen the country’s decline.
