The Lagos state government has locked-down Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after a COVID-19 patient died this morning (Saturday, April 11, 2020) at its Ayinke House and Institute of Mother and Child Health, after child birth.
Premier News gathered that the patient was a middle-aged woman who was rushed into the hospital for child delivery in the late hours of Thursday, 9th of April, 2020; unknown to the doctors on duty, she had COVID-19.
It was gathered a sample was immediately taken from her for a COVID-19 test when she started manifesting some symptoms of the coronavirus after her child delivery. The test returned positive but the patient had died from supposed complications of the COVID-19 virus.
The Lagos State Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) we gathered have begun contact tracing of people who were exposed to the deceased, specifically the emergency unit and the department of gynecology.
Lagos state government has also temporarily sealed the hospital for fumigation against the COVID-19 virus.
While some house workers and doctors also spoke to our reporter under anonymity, lamented that the resources of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital had been over-stretched after the Lagos state government declared free health care throughout the month of April without making adequate and additional provision for the hospital, hence cases like this may increase even after the re-opening.
