Crystal Palace made history after defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final to claim the club’s first European trophy.

French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the winning goal early in the second half at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. The forward reacted quickly after goalkeeper Augusto Batalla pushed out an effort from Adam Wharton, turning the rebound into the net from close range.

The victory marked a memorable farewell for Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who leaves Selhurst Park after an outstanding two-and-a-half-year spell. During his time at the club, Glasner guided Crystal Palace to the FA Cup, Community Shield, and now European success.

Both clubs entered the match playing in their first-ever European final, and the opening stages reflected the tension of the occasion. Opportunities remained limited in the first half, although Rayo Vallecano threatened through Alemao and Unai Lopez.

Palace nearly broke the deadlock before half-time when Tyrick Mitchell headed wide after an excellent delivery from Wharton into the penalty area.

The breakthrough finally arrived six minutes after the restart as Jean-Philippe Mateta scored his 16th goal of the season for Crystal Palace. The striker almost left the club in January before a knee injury ended a proposed move to AC Milan.

Rayo Vallecano pushed for an equaliser late in the game, with Yeremy Pino striking both posts from a free-kick before creating another chance for Mateta, but Batalla denied him with a strong save.

Despite late pressure, Crystal Palace defended well and secured a historic European triumph in Glasner’s final match as manager.
