Nigerian music star Davido has disclosed that he is no longer enthusiastic about pursuing a career in politics, citing growing concerns over the performance of celebrities who have ventured into the political space.

Speaking during a livestream on Twitch with content creator Davrel, the singer—whose real name is David Adeleke—said his earlier interest in partisan politics has waned after observing the experiences of other entertainers who made the transition.

According to him, while he once considered going into politics, the realities of the political environment and the risk to his established reputation have made him rethink that ambition.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways,” he said. “All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built—it is tricky.”

Davido noted that public perception and expectations pose significant challenges, especially for celebrities entering governance.

“The superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he added.

The award-winning artist further suggested that politics may be better suited to career politicians, emphasizing that the field requires a different kind of commitment and expertise.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their profession,” he stated.

His remarks add to ongoing conversations about the intersection of entertainment and politics in Nigeria, particularly as more public figures consider leveraging their popularity for political influence.
