A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has pledged unwavering support for whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Momodu said he would mobilise his full political strength behind the ADC’s flag bearer, whether it turns out to be former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 candidate Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, or former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
The veteran journalist made the declaration during an interview on Politics HQ, aired on News Central, where he stressed that party loyalty would override personal preference.
According to Momodu, his long-standing personal relationships with the leading opposition figures would not influence his commitment to the ADC’s collective decision. He noted that his allegiance remains firmly with the party, adding that he would give “everything” to support any candidate chosen through its internal process.
Momodu also pushed back against narratives portraying divisions among opposition leaders, particularly between Atiku and Obi. He recalled that both politicians worked together in the 2019 presidential election, insisting their relationship remains cordial.
He described Atiku as a consummate democrat who harbours no grudges and continues to engage constructively with key political actors across party lines, arguing that unity among opposition figures is essential ahead of 2027.
