Victor Moses was just 11 years old when his parents were killed in Nigeria’s religious clashes. He was sent to England as an asylum seeker.
He started playing football on the streets and was soon spotted by Cosmos 90 FC. He impressed at trial and signed a schoolboy contract with Crystal Palace.
He was then placed in one of Croydon’s best private schools, Whitgift. He excelled at football and was encouraged by former Chelsea defender Colin Pates.
He signed for Chelsea in 2012 but was sent out on loan multiple times. In 2016, Antonio Conte arrived at Chelsea and saw something in Moses that no one else had spotted.
He played Moses at wing-back and Moses excelled, helping Chelsea win the Premier League title. Moses has also celebrated World Cup qualification this year with Nigeria.
He has overcome both personal heartbreak and repeated professional setbacks to finally reach the top.
