Babatunji Wusu –

A former police officer in Edo State, Inspector Edith Uduma, has threatened self-harm following her dismissal from the police force after revealing an alleged assault incident involving a colleague. She claimed that her dismissal was unjust and that the public had not heard her side of the story.

Uduma’s dismissal followed a viral video she recorded in October, which showed a fellow officer, Sergeant Abraham, in an inappropriate situation with a 17-year-old girl at a police station in South Ibie, Edo State. The officer was seen hastily putting on his trousers and questioning why Edith was filming. The girl was also seen in the room during the incident.

According to the police, both officers were dismissed after an internal trial. The Edo State Police Command later alleged that Uduma had conspired with her husband, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed, to extort N1 million from Sergeant Abraham to cover up the incident. When Abraham reportedly offered N45,000 instead, the video was leaked online, according to the police statement.

The command claimed, “Contrary to reports, the female officer, Insp. Edith Uduma, was the Charge Room Officer on October 7, 2024, when Sgt. Abraham allegedly assaulted a female suspect at the station. Instead of reporting the incident, she allegedly took advantage of the situation to demand money to conceal the matter.”

Uduma’s husband was also demoted to the rank of Sergeant. However, Uduma denied the allegations, asserting that she did not extort money and was not given a fair hearing. She argued that her dismissal was due to her lack of influential connections and insisted her case had not been adequately addressed.

In an emotional interview, Uduma expressed that her dismissal was unfair and threatened self-harm if she did not receive justice. She further mentioned that the Force Headquarters in Abuja was still investigating the matter when the Edo Command proceeded with her dismissal.
