Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has dismissed claims that he once fled from the police after a car accident in the United Kingdom during his early career.

The controversy began after his former associate, Bankulli, alleged at a recent event that Don Jazzy removed his vehicle’s number plate and escaped the scene of an accident to avoid police scrutiny. Bankulli claimed the producer had dozed off while driving back from a show, crashed his car, and ran off because towing the vehicle would cost more than repairing it.

Following the revelation, an X user criticised Bankulli for “reckless talk,” warning that the alleged incident could expose Don Jazzy to legal trouble if he visited the UK.

Don Jazzy, however, swiftly set the record straight. Responding on X, he urged fans not to worry, stressing that he did not evade law enforcement as claimed.

He explained that he actually waited for police officers to arrive at the scene, underwent a breathalyser test, and was cleared of driving under the influence. According to him, the police impounded the damaged car, but he chose not to reclaim it because the retrieval fee was higher than the car’s worth.

“It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly,” Don Jazzy wrote. “I waited for the police. They gave me a breathalyser; I wasn’t drunk. They impounded the car, and the fine to collect it back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them.”
