The management of the National Assembly urged the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria not to carry out its threat to picket the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday and Wednesday but to continue to explore peaceful means.

The Clerk to National Assembly, Mr Mohammed Sani-Omolori, said the National Assembly management was already addressing some of the grievances of PASAN members.

This was contained in a letter by the Clerk in response to a notice by the workers to picket the federal legislative house.

The letter was entitled, ‘Re: Notice of Picketing/Strike Rising from the Resolutions of Congress Meetings of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, National Assembly Service Commission and National Assembly Chapters.’

The CNA urged the executive of PASAN to immediately call off the proposed picketing and strike and continue to engage the management of the National Assembly on all issues raised in their letter dated November 29, 2018.

Responding to the issue of 28 per cent increment of the CONLESS, Sani-Omolori said he had set up a committee made up of representatives of the management and the association to study, review and advise on the way forward.

The Clerk said the payment was captured in the 2018 budget but the level of implementation in terms of release of funds had made it impossible to pay the additional 28 per cent.

“This situation has been well discussed, and I am aware that PASAN officials have investigated and verified this fact from the Federal Ministry of Finance,” he said.
