The Rivers State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has met former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the February 2027 governorship election.

The meeting reportedly took place at Jonathan’s residence in Bayelsa State. However, neither man has publicly disclosed details of their discussions.

Dumo Lulu-Briggs meets Goodluck Jonathan at a time when political parties and candidates are intensifying consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Although the purpose of the meeting remains unclear, it comes amid growing political activities surrounding the Rivers governorship contest.

Lulu-Briggs is expected to face candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gabriel Pidomson, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kingsley Chinda.

The meeting with Jonathan also comes against the backdrop of recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, about the governorship race.

Wike had dismissed Lulu-Briggs’ chances of winning the election. He also described Chinda as the only candidate capable of securing victory at the polls.

The FCT minister attributed his position to the support of the Rainbow Coalition, which he said was backing the APC candidate.

However, Lulu-Briggs’ reported engagement with the former president adds another development to the political consultations ahead of the 2027 election.

With the governorship contest drawing closer, attention is expected to remain on the candidates, their political alliances and the support they can attract across Rivers State.

Dumo Lulu-Briggs meets Goodluck Jonathan as preparations for the February 2027 Rivers governorship election gather momentum.
