Rivers Rainbow Coalition has gained members of the defunct Simplified Movement from the Evo axis, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, made up of former allies of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, visited the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Chike Amaewhule, on Tuesday.

According to the Speaker’s media aide, Martin Wachuku, the group used the visit to reaffirm its support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and political leader in Rivers State.

The delegation was led by Solomon Abel Eke, a former chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council.

Mr Eke said the group had returned to the political family and was ready to work with other members of the Rivers Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also said the members would support efforts by the coalition as preparations for the elections continue.

Mr Amaewhule welcomed the group and called for greater cooperation among political stakeholders in Rivers State.

He said Mr Wike had created an opportunity for reconciliation and urged people who had previously left the political group to return.

The Speaker also asked the returnees to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates associated with the coalition in Rivers State.

He specifically mentioned Kingsley Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, among those the group should support.

The development comes as political groups in Rivers State continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, political realignments have remained a major feature of the state’s political landscape following disagreements involving Governor Fubara and his former political allies.

The latest move by members of the former Simplified Movement adds another development to the ongoing political realignment in the state.

However, the political groups involved will have to continue their mobilisation as parties prepare for the 2027 electoral cycle.
