The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, over the alleged killing of his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.
The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, while presenting the suspect alongside other individuals arrested for various offences.
According to the police chief, the victim had reportedly lived with Ekata for about a year before the incident. He alleged that the suspect killed the teenager, removed one of her breasts and attempted to extract her unborn baby.
During an interview with journalists, Ekata reportedly admitted killing the young woman but claimed that spiritual forces influenced his actions. He also maintained that he had never committed murder before.
Explaining what happened, the suspect said, “I began hearing voices instructing me to k+ll her, but I initially resisted because she was pregnant.
“The same instruction came to me in a dream about two weeks later, prompting me to commit the crime.
“After k+lling her, I severed her breast as the spirit instructed me to do so,” he said.
Ekata further disclosed that he transported the victim’s body in a Toyota Corolla before abandoning it by the roadside. He denied having killed anyone else before the incident.
Reacting to the case, Daaor described the alleged killing of the pregnant teenager as horrific and expressed sadness over her death. He also praised community members whose assistance helped the police track down and arrest the suspect.
The commissioner assured residents that the suspect would face the full weight of the law. He urged members of the public to provide credible information to security agencies to support efforts to prevent and investigate crime.
Daaor also called on parents to pay closer attention to their children’s safety, particularly girls, warning that vulnerable people could face threats from sexual predators and other dangerous individuals.
The case has raised fresh concerns about the safety of vulnerable people and the need for communities to work closely with security agencies. The allegations remain subject to the legal process.
