Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says Rivers State will support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. He also declared that there would be no more bloodshed in the state.

Wike spoke on Tuesday during the unveiling of Rainbow Coalition candidates in Port Harcourt. He said the coalition aimed to unite members of different political parties behind Tinubu.

“The Rainbow Coalition means no harm but to bring people together from all the political parties to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Wike also claimed that he and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had agreed that party members nationwide would vote for Tinubu in the next presidential election.

“As the national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, we have agreed that every PDP member in all the states will vote for President Tinubu,” he said.

The minister maintained that he remained the recognised national leader of the PDP. He also said no other individual could speak on behalf of the party.

Wike dismissed the political relevance of opposition parties in Rivers State. He argued that the Rainbow Coalition had brought political figures from different parties together to support Tinubu.

Wike also criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He referred to their political relationship during the 2019 and 2023 election cycles. Wike said he had been one of Atiku’s strongest supporters but accused the former vice-president of changing his position frequently.

“I was one of his biggest supporters. He tells you one thing in the morning, he tells you another thing in the afternoon,” Wike said.

“He tells you something in the evening, the next morning, he tells you a different thing,” he added.

Wike’s remarks centred on Rivers State’s support for Tinubu, his claim to PDP leadership and his criticism of Atiku.

The minister did not provide further details in the reported remarks about how the coalition would secure support across the state ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
