The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed a trending online video that claims herdsmen murdered people at Awgu Junction. The viral clip alleges that the killings took place along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, but officials state the claims are entirely fabricated.

In an official statement published via Facebook on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, clarified the situation. He explained that a thorough police investigation proved the event did not happen as described. Furthermore, detectives found absolutely no reliable proof to back up the online story.

The statement reads: “The Command unequivocally refutes the claim and states that the narrative being circulated is false, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and tension among residents.”

The authorities strongly condemned the deliberate sharing of unverified and aggressive posts. They warned that spreading such fake news directly threatens public safety and community peace. Consequently, officers are urging everyone to ignore the clip and stop sharing the misinformation on social media networks. The Command also issued a strict warning to anyone creating or sharing these lies, stating they will use the law to punish offenders.

Reaffirming the group’s dedication to protecting lives, Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus advised citizens to check facts through official sources. He urged locals to report genuine safety concerns directly to the police investigation teams rather than posting rumours online. Thanks to this swift action, the public now knows the truth behind the viral video debunked by the state authorities.
