The Etche Kingdom has been plunged into mourning following the death of its Patriarch and Paramount Ruler, His Royal Majesty Eze E.N.B. Opurum, JP, DSSRS, MHR.
The Rt Hon Boniface S. Emerengwa, on behalf of his family and constituents, expressed his condolences over the death of the traditional ruler.
He described the monarch’s death as a painful loss to the community, saying, “A great silence has fallen upon our hearts.”
Emerengwa said Eze Opurum shared a close relationship with his late father, Chief Paul N. Emerengwa, who served as the Traditional Prime Minister of the Igwuruta Town Council of Chiefs during the reign of His Majesty Eze B.W. Olocha of Igwuruta.
According to him, the relationship continued after his father’s death.
He said the late monarch extended the same love and affection he had shown his father to the Emerengwa family and maintained the bond with his descendants until his death.
Emerengwa described the late ruler as a father, leader, pillar and custodian of culture and heritage.
He said Eze Opurum offered wisdom, guidance and support to many people during his lifetime.
Furthermore, Emerengwa said the monarch’s influence reached beyond his traditional responsibilities.
He described him as a man who carried people’s burdens quietly, gave generously and left a lasting mark on those around him.
“The Etche Kingdom has lost a guide and a custodian of its culture and heritage,” Emerengwa said.
He also reflected on the temporary nature of wealth, titles and earthly achievements. However, he said the kindness people show and the lives they touch remain their lasting legacy.
As the Etche Kingdom mourns, Emerengwa urged the family, community and those who knew the late monarch to remember his contributions and the values he represented.
He concluded his tribute with a farewell to the late Paramount Ruler.
