The Chairman of Ethiope-East Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, has vowed that justice will be served for the pregnant woman allegedly shot dead by soldiers chasing suspected internet fraudsters in Abraka.
Ogedegbe, in a post on his Facebook page, described the woman’s death as both “painful” and “avoidable,” stressing that the Council has begun taking steps to prevent similar tragedies.
He expressed concern over the incident, lamenting that the soldiers’ action strayed from their primary duty of safeguarding lives and property.
“It is deeply concerning to see incidents like this, which diverge from the intended duties of combating crime and ensuring public safety,” he said.
The Council boss assured residents that the matter would be pursued with the seriousness it deserves, while also calling for calm in Abraka as relevant security agencies are engaged to ensure accountability.
Ogedegbe extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort in their grief.
