Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the anti-graft body summoned him for questioning on financial wrongdoing.
According to Daily Trust, Ortom drove into the agency’s Makurdi zonal office, which is located at Alor Gordon street in the state capital, and stepped into the facility at 10:08 a.m. today, Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
Terver Akase, the previous governor’s media adviser, and Abraham Kwanhgu, the Principal Special Assistant on Special Duties, were seen with him. According to reports, Ortom handed over a N187.7 billion debt profile to Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia’s administration.
Ortom told Alia during a brief ceremony held at the ancient dining hall of Government House in Makurdi that the handover papers in three volumes were a summary of his eight years in office.
