The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young woman, Aladi Offikwu Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, who was discovered unconscious in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, Abuja, with her hands tied behind her back.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident was brought to the attention of the police after a disturbing video of the unconscious woman surfaced online, prompting public concern and outrage.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, has described the case as tragic and unacceptable.

He has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the events leading to Tessy’s death and to ensure that anyone responsible is brought to justice.

Preliminary police investigations identified the deceased as Aladi Offikwu Johnson, a young woman from Benue State, who had checked into a hotel located on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on June 16, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male companion.

According to hotel records and surveillance reports, the man was seen leaving the hotel premises alone, raising immediate concerns after Tessy was not seen for hours.

The hotel staff, during a routine check of rooms, discovered Tessy unconscious and unresponsive, with her hands tied behind her. She was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where she was unfortunately confirmed dead.

Police Response and Public Advisory
The Commissioner of Police has urged members of the public to remain calm while assuring that the full weight of the law will be applied once the perpetrator(s) are identified.

He further issued a safety advisory, especially to young women, emphasizing the importance of sharing real-time location and movement details with trusted friends or relatives, particularly when meeting or lodging with unfamiliar persons.

“While we are determined to find the individual(s) responsible for this heinous crime, we also advise all young ladies to exercise caution in their social interactions and avoid staying alone in such situations without informing someone,” CP Adewale said.

Hotel Security and Surveillance
The FCT Police Command also used the opportunity to call on hotel operators across the territory to enhance internal security, stressing the need for:

Strict identity verification for all guests,

Installation of functional CCTV systems, and

Training of hotel staff on emergency response and security vigilance.

The Police Command expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring them and the general public that no effort will be spared in bringing the culprit(s) to justice.

“Every resource necessary will be deployed to unravel this tragic incident. Justice must prevail,” the statement concluded.

The Command promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
