The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has carried out a major raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the territory, taking approximately 300 persons into custody for screening and profiling.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts by the Command to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and strengthen the safety and security of residents.
According to the FCT Police Command, the operation targeted several locations identified as potential criminal hideouts across the territory.
Items recovered during the raids included knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
The Command said the persons arrested are currently undergoing thorough screening and profiling. Those found to have committed offences will be charged to court in accordance with the law, while individuals found to have no case to answer will be released after the completion of the screening process.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, said the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations, particularly in locations identified as potential hideouts for criminal activities.
CP Sanusi also cautioned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, warning that substance abuse can impair judgment, contribute to violent and criminal behaviour and create security risks for individuals and communities.
He encouraged persons struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support.
The Commissioner further directed police officers participating in raids and enforcement operations to conduct themselves professionally and strictly in accordance with the law.
He warned officers against using arrests or raids as opportunities for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, stressing that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information about suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts within their communities.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
