Babatunji Wusu –

Three villagers from Agbada Nenwe in Enugu State’s Aninri local government area were slain by masked gunmen who stormed the community.
Our correspondent learned that the victims included Hillary Uche, a popular block and cement merchant at Orie Agu, Emulemoke Agbada Road; Kingsley, a machine parts dealer in the village’s signboard area; and another young man known as FM.

The tragedy occurred Saturday morning, with the gunman finding the victims in their homes and shops and executing them instantaneously.

While Kingsley and FM were allegedly dragged from their homes in Amagu Agbada Nenwe to the village square and murdered, Hilary was allegedly murdered inside his own shop in Orie Agu.

It was also learned that the hoodlums set fire to a residence following a fruitless search for another target.

The killings had caused terror and sadness in the neighborhood, and young business owners were alleged to have fled.

“My brother, some unknown gunmen entered my village and brought out Kingsley and FM and dragged them to the village square where they killed them,” a villager stated.

“No one knows who they are. Some arrived on motorcycles, while others claimed to have arrived in vehicles.

“Everyone is terrified to go outside. Panic reigns supreme. This has never happened before in this town.

“Mr Hillary, one of those killed, was shot three times in his shop in Orie Agu Nenwe.” All of those unknown gunmen wore masks, implying that they may have arrived from nearby.”

Daniel Ndukwe, the state police spokesman, confirmed the event and said a manhunt for the attackers had been initiated.

“A covert investigation and manhunt operation are underway to apprehend the yet-to-be identified armed hoodlums said to have shot and killed three male victims in the early hours of 09/09/2023, at Agbada Village square, in Nenwe community of Aninri Local Government Area,” he said.

“Further developments will be communicated as needed.”
