Bababtunji Wusu –
Bello Bodejo, the president of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore organization, was charged by the federal government on Friday in an Abuja Federal High Court.
The Miyetti Allah chief was charged with three counts of illegally founding and aiding Kungiya Zaman Lafiya, an ethnic militia group. The charges were brought before Justice Inyang Ekwo.
Bodejo was charged with breaking the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).However, after hearing the charge, Bodejo entered a not guilty plea.
Judge Ekwo then issued an order for the leader of Miyetti Allah to be placed under additional detention under the protection of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and postponed the trial until May 27.
You may remember that on Tuesday, January 23, at approximately 3:30 p.m., security personnel detained Bodejo at the Miyetti Allah Head Office, located at Tundun Maliya Cattle Market, Kilometre 22, Abuja-Keffi Expressway, Tundun-Wada, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
According to reports, the recent formation of a vigilante organization in Nasarawa State is related to his detention.
Following calls for his release on bond, the federal government provided an explanation of why Bello Bodejo, the president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, should continue to be detained and arrested. This came from the office of Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation.
Through Ms. Y.A. Imana, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s attorney, the federal government urged the court to deny Bodejo’s request for unconditional release.
“This is a matter that touches on national security,” Imana said in her pleading statement to the court, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
