The accusations against Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), have been revised by the Federal Government of Nigeria from six to twenty.
On Thursday, January 18, 2023, the updated accusations were made public in court before Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Emefiele is currently facing allegations related to criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and felonious conspiracy.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attorney, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the defense team that he had provided them with an updated charge during the trial’s resumption on Thursday.
Emefiele’s attorney, Mathew Burkaa, responded by stating that his client couldn’t enter a plea until he had had time to review the new accusation.
After that, the presiding judge postponed the case to Friday, January 19.
