The Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency have partnered to distribute food and non-perishable items to those affected by the state’s flood in 2023.
The distribution, which got underway on Tuesday, was an attempt to draw attention to the suffering caused by the floods for people living in the state’s Kebbe Local Government Area.
This is stated in a statement that SEMA’s Information Officer, Abubakar Abdullahi, signed on Wednesday and provided to reporters.
In the person of Mustapha Umar, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, SEMA Special Advisor Nasiru Kalambaina urged the recipients to use the supplies wisely.
The Sole Administrator, Kebbe LGA, Sanusi Kebbe, utilized the opportunity to praise and commend the Sokoto SEMA for the prompt facilitation of materials provided to them by the NEMA during his remarks prior to the flag-off.
When speaking with reporters, a few beneficiaries praised NEMA and the state government for the commodities’ prompt delivery.
In the meantime, SEMA and the state’s NEMA operating office collaborated to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the banditry occurrences that resulted in the displacement of multiple communities inside the LGA’s Sangi, Ungushi, Girkau, and Margai wards.
The combined team conducting the evaluation found that more than 200 houses were impacted by the banditry incidence, with many of those households reporting that the bandits had killed someone.
Speaking during the inspection, Kebbe expressed gratitude to the joint team for their visit and situation assessment.
In his remarks, Umar expressed the state government’s sympathies to the impacted communities and gave them the assurance that following the evaluation, a report would be created by both agencies and sent to the relevant authorities for any additional actions that would be required.
AmÃnu Ambursa represented NEMA Sokoto as the head of operation, and Kabiru Garba, the director of finance at SEMA, observed and oversaw the assessment.
