Four individuals have died as a result of a cholera outbreak, while 130 others have been afflicted in seven wards of Zamfara State’s Gusau local government area.
Tribune Online learned that the afflicted local community was unable to identify the outbreak’s origin.
During an education and outreach tour to the community, the district head of Madawaki in the Gusau local government, who was represented by Alhaji Shehu Labbo, said that the cholera outbreak has touched 7 wards in the Gusau local government area.
He lamented that the outbreak had killed four people and afflicted 130 people in 7 wards of the Gusau local government region.
The affected communities, according to him, were located in the Gusau local government area’s Mayana, Rijiya, Galadima, Wanke, and Sabongari wards.
He urged people to always maintain a clean environment and to be more cautious about the stream water they consume.
The outbreak was linked to an allegedly unsanitary atmosphere by Mallam Danja Kurya, a health educator and media education officer for the Zamfara State primary healthcare board.
He stated that in order to combat the outbreak in the afflicted towns and the state as a whole, the board has started an intense public awareness campaign about the need for a clean environment, constant sanitization, and the use of clean water.
