Siminalayi Fubara on Sunday emerged for his first public engagement since fresh impeachment proceedings were initiated against him, attending a special Armed Forces Remembrance Day church service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church.
The Rivers State Governor was accompanied by his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and other senior government officials at the solemn service held in Port Harcourt.
The appearance came days after the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced another impeachment process against the governor on Thursday, marking the third such attempt in less than three years and further deepening political strain in the state.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service honoured Nigerian servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country’s unity and sovereignty. Clergy and congregants offered prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes, as well as for the protection and safety of personnel currently serving in the armed forces.
Despite the renewed political pressure and allegations of gross misconduct levelled by the lawmakers, Governor Fubara and officials of his administration have so far maintained silence on the matter.
