The terrorist attack on a train station in Igueben, Edo State, south-south Nigeria, on Saturday has been denounced by Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The attack was described as “very sad and unfortunate” in a statement released on Sunday by Mr. Okowa, who is also the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The terrorists attacked the train and abducted numerous passengers, according to THE PREMIER NEWS.
According to the governor, terrorist activity has continued to be a troubling phenomenon nationwide.
He urged security organizations to find the train station attackers and save the victims.
In order for security forces to effectively police the nation, the PDP vice presidential candidate also urged Nigerians to rise to the occasion and provide them with pertinent information.
He urged the Nigerian government to stop playing with its citizens’ lives and drop its “lethargic attitude and cosmetic approach” to tackling insecurity in the nation.
“As a nation, we must be extremely alarmed by the actions of armed groups and non-state actors attempting to topple our government.
With just a few weeks until the general elections, he said, “This dastardly act is not only concerning but also deplorable, and we urge security agencies to swiftly track down and capture the gunmen and rescue the victims.”
Mr. Okowa expressed sympathy to the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s leadership as well as to the families of the kidnapped passengers at the train station.
“At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with their families, and we pray for the victims’ prompt return to be reunited with their families,” he continued.
