Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all 44 local government areas, effective immediately. This announcement was made by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday.

This decision follows a recent extension approved by the state House of Assembly, which had previously extended the tenure of the caretaker committees by two months past the original expiration date of September 8. The extension was intended to ensure continuity in local governance until the upcoming local government elections set for October 26.

Governor Yusuf has directed the caretaker chairmen to hand over their responsibilities to the Directors of Personnel Management in their respective local governments. This dissolution also affects vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors. “This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors,” Yusuf stated.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the outgoing caretaker chairmen for their contributions to local development and hinted at the potential for future collaboration.
