The government of Abia State has announced that, beginning of November 2023, governmental officials who did not participate in the verification process will not be paid.

This was said on Monday in Umuahia by Commissioner of Information and Culture Okey Kanu, who was briefing reporters on the results of this week’s executive council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

He stated that the two-week extension granted by the State administration to all involved civil personnel should have been used to finish the verification.

Those who were unable to go through the verification process, according to Kanu, may still speak with the leaders of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to find out why they hadn’t been validated.

The commissioner also revealed that, should they be able to comply with the standards and rules set by the State government, the 197 private schools that were recently shuttered in the State could be allowed to reopen.

He mentioned that the shuttered private schools were greeted with appalling facilities and subpar faculty.

He further mentioned that a Whistle Blower policy will soon be introduced by the State administration.

The names of the unconfirmed workers have been posted, according to Senior Special Advisor on Special Duties to the Governor of Abia State Betty Emeka-Obasi, who also added her voice. She recommended the workers to speak with the heads of their MDAs.
