For his intense effort against Morocco in the FIFA World Cup semifinal on Thursday, France’s Antonie Griezmann was named player of the match.

Griezmann, who is currently playing in a deeper midfield position, was crucial to France’s performance as he assisted his team in maintaining a clean sheet despite being heavily pressured by the Moroccan onslaught.

Griezmann is currently the first player at this World Cup to generate more than 20 opportunities.

Argentina will face France in the final at the Lusail Stadium on December 18 after Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani each scored in the fifth and 44 seconds after entering the game, respectively.

After dominating the first minutes of the game, France scored first. Antoine Griezmann attempted to cut back pass to Kylian Mbappe, but Mbappe timed his attempts poorly. Hernandez was in line to score after the second shot deflected into his direction, and from close range, he outshot Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

When another of Mbappe’s deflected shots fell kindly for Kolo Muani, who touched the ball into the net, the defending champion clinched the victory.

Griezmann has served as France’s main source of creative energy and now holds the tournament assist lead with three.
