By Babatunji Wusu – The family of Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and a leading APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her two sons in Ibadan.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. According to a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped by armed gunmen while travelling to school.
“Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons, who were with her at the time of the incident.”
Awogboro explained that Mrs John-Paul, the youngest of five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, recently retired after serving at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. He added that she had relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband in the United States.
The family disclosed that security agencies responded immediately after receiving the report and have launched investigations. Efforts are currently underway to secure the safe release of the victims and arrest those responsible.
In the statement, the family expressed confidence in the ability of security operatives to resolve the situation. They also appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and support ongoing rescue efforts.
The development has renewed concerns about kidnapping in Oyo State, following recent incidents involving teachers, students and political figures in the state.
