At a mining site in Iboko, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi, suspected gunmen killed a Chinese expatriate and disarmed a number of police officers.
SP The Police Command in Ebonyi has not yet acknowledged the event, according to Chris Anyanwu, the command’s spokesperson, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) via phone from Abakaliki on Sunday.

The killing was called an embarrassment by Mr. Steve Emenike, the state’s chairman of the Izzi Local Government Area.
The suspected hoodlums, according to Emenike, arrived on motorcycles.

He said that the council had reinstated the fearsome Vigilante Group and prohibited the use of motorcycles in the region between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
“We are putting a lot of effort into determining the sources of the problem, and we’re collaborating with security organizations like the Police and DSS to conduct an investigation and see to it that the offenders are held accountable.
“We are unable to accept or endure this level of uncertainty any longer. Since we are a peaceful people, we cannot allow evil to spread.
The police officers who were protecting the Chinese throughout the incident, according to some eyewitnesses who asked to remain anonymous, were disarmed by the thugs.
He continued, “The victim’s body has been placed at a mortuary in Abakaliki.”
