Three persons have been shot dead by gunmen in a rare attack on Kano, Nigeria’s second largest state.

The mother of a businessman was also abducted.

Although gunmen have been attacking communities in the north-west, Kano has rarely recorded any.

The Kano state police command confirmed the attack on Rurum village in Rano LGA but declared to give any casualty figures.

But our correspondent  reliably learnt that three persons were killed in the attack on Tuesday.

Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesman of the police in the state, confirmed the incidents.

He said the gunmen abducted two persons but one was rescued one.

Residents told our correspondent  that the gunmen killed three after opening fire unprovoked.

They also abducted a businessman, Yusuf Jibrin, and his wife, Asabe, but released the man.

His brother was shot and later died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital while the remaining victims, including the old man who escaped from their hands, are receiving treatment.

The security officials arrived the scene after the gunmen had left.
